What System is Right For
You?
To determine the proper size of equipment and ductwork your
home needs, McCullough's experienced technicians will measure
your home and calculate the actual heating & cooling load
on the home. Our calculations incorporate window size and
direction, walls, ceiling, floor, appliances, insulation,
and much more. We'll compare this to your current equipment,
and adjust for your lifestyle.
Is Bigger Better?
Not necessarily. An oversized air conditioner will cool your
house quicker, but it will use more electricity and will not
remove humidity adequately. Contrary to popular belief, long
AC system run cycles are far more desirable and energy efficient
than short run cycles. The greatest amount of energy usage,
and wear and tear on your equipment, occurs at system start
up. Once started, it takes up to 10 minutes before your system
is operating at peak efficiency and performance. An oversized
system will often bring the temperature down to the thermostat
setting in just a few minutes; thus your oversized system
never gets to operate at peak performance. And, because removing
moisture requires long run times (so enough air can flow over
the cold coil), an oversized system shuts off before proper
dehumidification can occur. Its short cycles cost you plenty
in terms of comfort, utility bills and added repairs.
The same holds true with heating systems. An oversized furnace
will warm the house quicker, but it uses more fuel and causes
greater temperature swings in the home. McCullough's technicians
can calculate the proper furnace size to maintain your comfort
inside when it is very cold outside.
